MY NOTES
- Proverbs 23:7 NKJV
[7] For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.
Who do you think you are!? Is your mindset about your identity being formed more by the Word of God, or by the experiences, opinions, and perspectives of the world?
- John 17:11 ESV - They are in the world…
- John 17:16 ESV - They are not of the world…
- Philippians 3:20 NLT - But we are citizens of Heaven…
- Philippians 3:20 NIV - But our citizenship is in Heaven…
- 2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV - Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ…
According to identitytheft.com, there were 1.4 million cases of identity theft in the United States resulting in 5.8 Billion dollars in losses. Every 22 seconds, a new case of identity theft is reported to the Federal Trade Commission.
The enemy of your soul will use strategic ways to look to steal from you. There are some areas he won’t even bother tempting you in. But there are others that he understands may be areas of vulnerability - specific weaknesses or places in our lives that you might uniquely be more susceptible to believe his lies, or give place to his deception’s.
2 Corinthians 2:11 NIV
[11] in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.1 Peter 5:8 NIV
[8] Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Lions are strategic and opportunistic hunters. They stealthily await the right moment to pounce upon a target that is either young or immature, wounded, or has become isolated from the herd. The spiritual connotations of those vulnerable conditions in our lives are almost obvious.
We must:
- Pursue to grow in our spiritual maturity.
- Allow God to heal the hurts and pains of our life.
- Commit to remaining connected to fellowship in the body of Christ through the local church.
Not only is Satan strategic and opportunistic, but he is often subtle. If he showed up in a glossy red suit with horns and a pitchfork in hand, it would be easy to spot him and take a stand against his schemes. Check out how the bible describes him in Genesis chapter 3:
- Genesis 3:1 NIV
[1] Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
While Satan is strategic, opportunistic, and subtle, he is not creative. In fact, the only place I am aware the Bible gives him any credit to this end is when it describes him as the “father of lies.” (see John 8:44) His primary strategy is to question what God has said, to get YOU to question what God said. If he can introduce even a seed of doubt about the Word of God over our lives, he knows there is a chance that seed will sprout into full-fledged unbelief. What you don’t know CAN hurt you! Unfortunately today, His job has gotten easier – because many Christians no longer know what the bible has to say on the subject.
- Hosea 4:6 KJV
[6] My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
One reason humility is so important in the life of a believer is because of just how much power, authority, and greatness God has made available to us through our identity in Christ Jesus!
Matthew 5:5 NIV
[5] Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.Matthew 5:5 NLT
[5] God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
Greek word for meek is “praus” and it an equestrian term that means power under the control of the master. Below is a PARTIAL list of the things and the promises that God has spoken over you through His Word. Beyond the titles or descriptors the world has or will assign you (good or bad or in between). THIS LIST IS YOUR TRUE IDENTITY as a blood bought child of God!

The enemy comes to get you to doubt who you really are:
- Matthew 4:6 NLT “If you are the Son of God, jump off!
The next time the devil comes to you with a lie, a doubt, or a deception, predetermine to use the same strategy that Jesus used:
- Matthew 4:10 NIV 10 “Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written…”
- Matthew 4:10 NLT “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”**
Complete Dependence On Christ:
- Philippians 4:13 NKJV “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
- John 15:5 NIV “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Romans 7:18-25 NLT
[18] And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. [19] I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. [20] But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. [21] I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. [22] I love God’s law with all my heart. [23] But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. [24] Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? [25] Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.Galatians 5:17 NLT
[17] The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.Romans 8:37 ESV
[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
It is only through ongoing fellowship with God that any of us can truly and continually discover the grace to do or be anything in this life of faith.
Even on your WORST day, you are chosen, accepted, loved, and forgiven! You are victorious; an overcomer; and more than a conqueror. That is who YOU are in CHRIST!
