How should a Christian respond to climate change?
I. Define the
A.
is Climate Change? B. Is the earth’s temperature
?
II. Determine your
A. Why does your worldview
? B.
(Secular) worldview.
Romans 1:21-23; 25 NIV84 “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.”
25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-who is forever praised. Amen.
C.
The earth was designed and created by God.
Psalm 24:1 NIV84 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.Jesus affirms the Creation account.
Mark 10:6 NIV “But at the beginning of creation God “made them male and female.” Also, Matthew 25:34 NIVThe earth was created to be inhabited.
Isaiah 45:18 NIV84 For this is what the Lord says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited.God is in control of the earth’s future!
Genesis 8:22 NIV84 As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.
2 Peter 3:10-11 NIV84 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives.
III. Decide how to
A. Christians should be the best stewards of the environment.
Genesis 2:15 TLB The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden as its gardener, to tend and care for it.B. Christians should not worry about the future.
Matthew 6:34 NIV Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 24:6 NIV You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.C. Christians should enjoy and utilize the resources of earth with thanksgiving.
1 Timothy 6:17 NIV Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
EVERYTHING - 1 Timothy 6:17 (to enjoy)
PLANTS - Genesis 1:29 (fuel & fruit)
ALL FOOD - 1 Timothy 4:3 (God created)
ANIMALS - Acts 10:11 (Peter)
MEAT - John 21 (Jesus ate fish & Lamb)
D. Christians should value
more than the creation!
Matthew 6:26 NIV Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Matthew 12:12 NIV How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
IV. Summary (What should we practically do?)
Psalm 37:3 NIV84 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
God.
good.
God’s resources.
