Sermon Details

Sermon: The Hound of Heaven
Scripture: Genesis 42
Summary: God continues to fulfil his promise to the line of Abraham, showing that he can take someone’s sin, convict them of it, empower repentance and ultimately bring salvation.

For Reflection and Discussion

Read Scripture: Genesis 42

The 3 points of Peter’s sermon were:
    • The Sovereignty of God
    • The Wisdom of Joseph
    • The Kindness of Conviction
  1. What was one thing you learnt from the sermon?
  2. Read Genesis 12:1-3. This is the covenant God made with Abraham. What parts of the covenant can you see playing out in the story of Joseph?
  3. God’s sovereignty is all over the story of Joseph. Where can you see God’s sovereignty in your life so far?
  4. Joseph wants to know if his brothers have changed before he reconciles with them. What’s the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation? Do you have a time in your life where you reconciled with someone for good or bad?
  5. How can you tell if someone’s changed?
  6. Recount when you have felt conviction about sin. What was the feeling like? What did you do about it?
  7. Share your story about coming to faith and how the ‘Hound of Heaven’ came to you. Please note: Everyone’s testimony of coming to faith has different contours to it. God uses all sorts of things to bring his family home. Some may have felt a very strong conviction of sin and others not as much. Listen as people share with thankfulness to God for way he has gone about saving each one of you through Christ.
