Message Notes:
In This Series
James teaches us our faith becomes active when we activate our:
1. Mind
2. Works
3. Speech
4. Future
5. Faith Life
John 16:12-13
12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. 13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. NASB
MAIN IDEA:
Activating your future is choosing a path that stays close to God.
It means letting our old way of doing things die and embracing His way of choosing our next steps.
1. Activate your future by turning from the world’s way of doing things, James 4:1-4
James 4:1-4
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. 4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. NIV
2. Activate your future by turning it over to God, James 4:7-10
James 4:7-10
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. (IE. Repent of the things that represented separation from God) 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. NIV
3. Activate your future by letting God determine your steps, James 4:13-17.
James 4:13-17
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. NIV
Mindset To Adopt:
Everything I have is God’s. Everything I do is for God.
It is ALL from Him and for His purposes.
I am simply a steward with what He gives me.
Proverbs 16:9
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. NLT
MAIN IDEA:
Activating your future is choosing a path that stays close to God.
It means letting our old way of doing things die and embracing His way of choosing our next steps.
1. If you find yourself in a tough spot, know that God is in the turning around business…
2. You were made to live in God’s will and God’s ways.
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
When you make that switch from the old way of doing things to choosing God’s next steps… you open yourself up to receive all the fullness of blessing that He wants for you.
CHALLENGE:
What are some “old ways of doing things” that make it hard to walk in a future close to God?
Will you commit today to letting those things go and embracing His way?
If you prayed the prayer to start fresh with God today text “startagain” (one word) to 97000 so we can connect with you and help you take the next steps in this amazing decision.
