Lead Like Jesus … Hands of a Leader

MYTH: Individuals accomplish great things.

TRUTH: TEAMS accomplish great things.

BIG IDEA: You can’t accomplish anything of significance without a TEAM.

Three Leadership lessons from Jesus on TEAMWORK:

1. Very few things are as important as the team you SURROUND YOURSELF with.

One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles. —Luke 6:12-13 (NLT)

He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. —Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)

God’s dreams for you will be determined by the strength of the TEAM around you.

2. When surrounding yourself with a good team, prioritize TEAMWORK OVER TALENT every single time.

Simon (whom he named Peter), Andrew (Peter’s brother), James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (who was called the zealot), Judas (son of James), Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him). —Luke 6:14-16 (NLT)

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. —Acts 4:13 (NIV)

MIT Study on Teamwork

“Talent wins games. Teamwork wins championships.” — Michael Jordan

You might be the most talented individual on the team, but does the team perform the best when you’re on it?

3. Jesus prioritized INVESTING in and EMPOWERING His team.

Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness. —Matthew 10:1 (NLT)

AUTHORITY = the power or right to make decisions.

Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people. —Matthew 14:19 (NLT)

“It is amazing what you can accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit.” — Harry S. Truman

Challenge: Do you have the RIGHT TEAM around you?
