Holy Night … Waiting

Waiting is not easy.

Remember to obey the Law of Moses, my servant—all the decrees and regulations that I gave him on Mount Sinai for all Israel. “Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the LORD arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.” —NLT Malachai 4:4–6

The Bible is full of people who longed for something but had to wait…

Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD. —NLT Psalm 27:12–14

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. —NLT Hebrews 11:1–2

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. —NLT Hebrews 10:23–25

How do we get through / thrive in a season of waiting… longing expectation…

1. Keep doing or start doing what you know you are supposed to do

2. Remember God can be trusted to keep his promises… Therefore, we commit our activity (our doing) is based on trusting the character of God and the promises of God… Therefore, HE becomes our basis of our faith, hope, and optimism

Two great struggles everyone faces when waiting…
- Take back control
- Give up

Receive Promise, Calling, Dream

             GAP

I am here

All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it —NLT Hebrews 11:13

Final thoughts… while we are waiting… 3 to KNOW, and 3 to DO

1. God hears you

I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. —NLT Psalm 40:1

2. God loves you

3. God is near to you

4. Speak truth over perception in your heart and mind

5. Keep doing what you know to do

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. —NLT Galatians 6:9

6. Surround yourself with life-giving friends to wait expectantly with you while you live
