Matthew 4:23
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
GOSPEL OF KINGDOM = THE CONTENT…
SEEING KINGDOM CULTURE ESTABLISHED IN AREAS ALL OVER EARTH IS GOD’S DREAM…and IF IT IS GOD’S DREAM IT MUST BE OURS…
It is a different way of seeing life!
A lot of Christians repent enough to feel forgiven….
But not enough to SEE THE KINGDOM
Isiah 53:4 - 5
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
There is no missing the fact that both emotional and physical healings were part of the work of the cross: Griefs. Sorrows. Peace.
Another prophecy about the Messiah directly states He will heal emotions, comparing a person in need of emotional healing to a ‘bruised reed’ and a barely lit flame on a lamp.
Isaiah 42:1 - 4
1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
A BRUISED REED
This is a powerful picture of someone with emotional wounds!
• A BRUISED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK -
A bruise is a wound under the surface, in this example emotional.
Below the surface it is ugly and it hurts. It can linger that way for weeks.
An emotional bruise is hidden from view, protected by the person, and if someone inadvertently presses against that emotional wound the reaction to protect and back away is strong.
EMOTIONALLY BRUISED PEOPLE GET..
- OFFENDED
- FEEL HURT
- BACK AWAY FROM PEOPLE!
- An emotionally bruised person reacts disproportionate to the situation.
Example #2: MAN WITH LEGION OF DEMONS
Mark 5:6
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
This tells us the man still had SOME control.
He acknowledged that he had a demonic problem…
Healing Step #1 –
Mark 5:9
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Jesus is not JUST DELIVERING THE MAN…
- He is also healing him…
- He is getting the man to acknowledge where he is…
Acknowledge what is going on… and BELIEVE HIM FOR THE CHANGE!
YOU CANNOT DEFEAT WHAT YOU DO NOT DEFINE!
Healing Step #2 –
Mark 5:10
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
JESUS DOES NOT TELL HIM TO GO AWAY…which is probably what most people did to him.
JESUS DID NOT LEAVE HIM… he let him know… I am here.
JESUS IS MAKING HIM REVISIT HIS FAITH
~ I’M NOT LEAVING YOU or FORSAKING YOU. ~ So - CHANGE YOUR FAITH!
Mark 5:11 - 12
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
Healing Step #3 –
Luke 8:35
35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Notice the ease the man felt before Jesus.
Jesus made no judgement call on the sins which caused the man to become home to 2,000 demons!
He was hearing teaching that changed his mind about his life, his history, and reset his ideas!
Healing Step #4 – LEAVE YOUR
Luke 8:38 - 39a
38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39a Return to thine own house…
Healing Step #5 – MAKE YOUR
The man had decisions to make that involved him returning home to family and friends and rebuilding his life.
- That was not easy.
- It would not be a quick road.
BUT to CONTINUE in the HEALING Jesus provided - He needed to MAKE DECISIONS with his life.
Healing Step #6 – DISSEMINATE THE
Luke 8:39b
39b and shew how great things God hath done unto thee….
Healing Step #7 –
Luke 8:39c
39c And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
Jesus told the man to first go home, and then to his friends.
I Peter 4:10
10 “As everyone has received the grace, so give that grace to others, for you are now stewards of the (various forms) of the grace of God.”
