  1. The Old Testament Law can be both a point of embarrassment for those who follow Jesus and an obstacle to belief for those who don’t. Have you witnessed or personally experienced either of these instances?

  2. Before going further, take a minute to watch this video from The Bible Project.

  3. Remember where the Law fits on the timeline. It’s part of the larger story–the Law served as instructions for the ancient Jewish people as a newly formed nation. Why is it important that we remember this?

  4. On Sunday, we were told that we couldn’t and shouldn’t obey the Old Testament Law. Have you heard this before? How does this resonate with you?

  5. Take a minute to read and reflect on these ancient laws. What do they tell us about God’s character?

When you build a new house, make a parapet around your roof so that you may not bring the guilt of bloodshed on your house if someone falls from the roof. —Deuteronomy 22:8
When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God. —Leviticus 23:22
This is the law that applies when a person dies in a tent: Anyone who enters the tent and anyone who is in it will be unclean for seven days, and every open container without a lid fastened on it will be unclean. —Numbers 19:14-15

  6. If you’re able, revisit the last example from Sunday’s message (or have someone summarize it). Have you ever found yourself in a situation where it wasn’t easy to do what God says, but in doing so, you ended up seeing he wanted what was best for you? Watch it here.
