The 4 Anchors of the Spirit-Filled Life: Part II

• Acts of the Apostles 27:4 NLT
  [4] Putting out to sea from there, we encountered strong headwinds that made it difficult to keep the ship on course, so we sailed north of Cyprus between the island and the mainland.

• Acts 27:15 NIV
  [15] The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along.

In other words, they were drifting. You rarely drift to your desired destination. You almost always drift to a dangerous place.

Every Great life of faith is Built by grace but almost never by accident. It happens by the power of decision, determination and dedication. We can’t afford to drift – we have to make a determination, like Joshua did…

• Joshua 24:15 NIV
  [15] But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

  [29] Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight.

4 Anchors in the Life of every believer if you want to endure the storms and fulfill your purposes.

God’s presence, God’s promises, God’s people, God’s purposes for your life.

God’s People

God’s desire is to heal, restore, forgive, and strengthen and equip us so we are positioned to enjoy the blessing that comes from healthy relationships and friendships.

You can’t afford to get isolated. Even hardened prisoners get extra punishment by being put in solitary confinement.

We need a personal relationship with God, but much of what the Bible has to say about living out our faith is expressed in terms of family and community- through relationship!

  [19] “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. [20] For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

• Matthew 6:9-13 NIV
  [9] “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name [10] your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. [11] Give us today our daily bread. [12] And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

Something Powerful begins to happen when the way we live out our faith shifts from me to we.

Relationship calls us to become more Christ like.

God’s Purposes

You WERE CREATED and SAVED for a PURPOSE – to make a difference

  [28] And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

• Acts 27:22-25 NIV
  [22] But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. [23] Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me [24] and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’[25] So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

As Paul was living out his purpose, people were being saved and preserved, and God desires for us to live the same kind of life – individually and collectively as a church family.
