Light in the Darkness: Hope

Isaiah 9:6-7

A Christmas Conundrum

1.) Christmas provides an example of how we often focus our minds on the things of
this

.

2.) Scripture reminds us that the light we need in times of trouble comes from

this world.

Israel’s True Hope

1.) Israel made the mistake of seeking hope through the “

and ” of those in the world.

2.) God promises Israel a true hope in that there would come a great

in the darkness.

Hezekiah’s Prayer (2 Kings 19:15-19)

1.) Hezekiah

that God is God.

2.) Hezekiah accurately

the enemy of God’s people.

3.) Hezekiah acknowledges God’s right to

sin.

4.) Hezekiah knows the

of his hope, and the purpose for it.

Ultimate Hope

1.) To us a child is born; to

a Son is given.

2.) Only the Son exercises righteous

over God’s eternal Kingdom.

3.) Only in the Son are hidden all

things. (He will be called Wonderful…)

4.) Only the Son counsels with all true

. (…Counselor…)

5.) Only the Son can vanquish man’s greatest

. (…Mighty God…)

6.) Only the Son can bring mortal man into

. (…Everlasting Father…)

7.) Only the Son can give man true

. (…Prince of Peace…)
