Humility and Honesty

Three tests to see whether we need revival.

One: If I don’t love Jesus the way I once did, I need revival.
Two: If my spiritual life is defined by my activity for God rather than my intimacy with God, I need revival.
Three: If my commitment to Christ has grown lukewarm and my pursuit of holiness compromised, I need revival.

Revelation 2:5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

Humility:

Psalm 10:4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

I Peter 5:5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Honesty:

I John 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Psalm 51:1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
