Scripture

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. —Matthew 10:16-20 (NIV)

Notes

Study Guide

Step One: Icebreaker (Optional)
What is one thing that right now, you know should not be giving you anxiety, but for whatever reason, it is causing you some anxiety? Briefly explain why.

Step Two: Open
Ask someone in your group to pray to open your time together. Ask another person to read Matthew 10:16-20.

Step Three: Discuss

  1. What stood out to you the most in this weekend’s teaching? What was challenging, encouraging, or confusing to you?

  2. As the series “Anxious No More” comes to an end, ask a person in the group to read each of the texts we have studied over the past few weeks. Once done, take a moment to share how all these scriptures come together to help us address anxiety from a biblical perspective. (Luke 10:38-42, 1 Peter 5:5-7, Philippians 4:4-6, Matthew 10:16-20)

  3. Looking at all these texts, including Matthew 10:17, what should it mean for Christians to be “on guard” when it comes to facing various forms of anxiety? What are some practical examples of being “on guard” in your life?

  4. When it comes to sharing the Gospel, sharing your testimony with a non-believer, one of the biggest struggles with anxiety is that it comes from not knowing what to say or saying the right things. How does Matthew 10:19-20 help us start to confidently share?

  5. What are 3 specific ways or areas the group can start praying for you as it relates to anxiety in your life?

  6. Who are 3 specific names of people the group can start praying for you to find a way to share your faith with this Fall season?

  7. Take time to pray for each other’s answers to “Ice breaker question” and questions 5 – 6.

Step Four: Close in Prayer
Ask someone in your group to close in prayer, focusing on specific requests for people to find and
follow Jesus.
