“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.” —Revelation 3:17
1. “I Don’t Need God” is often the Religion of the Rich
Let’s Get Real:
- Do you have a job, savings, streaming, subscriptions, a car, a smart home, and a smartphone—but no spiritual fire…you’ve got a problem.
- Do you treat prayer like a fire extinguisher—only pulled out in case of emergency?
- Do you think tithing is optional because ‘we earned this’—as if we breathed life into our own lungs.
Here are some American Mentalities:
- “I’m good as long as I go to church occasionally.”
- “I need God for emergencies only, not my daily choices.”
- “Success means God’s blessing. Struggle means failure.”
“Your wealth has rotted… You have hoarded wealth in the last days.” —James 5:1–3:
“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’” —Deuteronomy 8:17
‘“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. ’ —Malachi 3:10-12
Wake-up: Your bank account may be full, but your soul is bankrupt.
2. Lukewarm Christianity is a Curse, Not a Comfort
Because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” —Revelation 3:16
Let’s Get Real:
- “We want just enough Jesus to feel safe, but not so much that it makes us uncomfortable.”
- “We post Bible verses in bios, but live for likes over lordship.”
- “We are passionate about politics, sports, and vacations—but passive about holiness, purity, and reaching the lost.”
American Mentalities Today:
- “I don’t want to take my faith too seriously—just enough to feel spiritual but not enough to change my lifestyle.”
These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. —Matthew 15:8
- “Don’t call out my sin—I want to live how I want and still claim to follow Jesus.”
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. —2 Corinthians 13:5
- “I don’t need to repent because I’m not as bad as other people—I’m a ‘good person.’”
All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. —Romans 3:23
