Dream Chasers

Advice I would give my younger self…

1. Be sure your dream is anchored in the right source and motivation

Mark 10:17-31 … Rich Young Ruler… Negotiating vs. Kneeling

God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. —NLT John 1:6–13

Your identity and confidence are based in whose you are and who you belong to…

2. It takes a team to achieve the dream

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. —NIV Romans 12:1–3

Four indisputable benefits needed for the journey as a Dream Chaser…

Encouragement

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn —NIV Romans 12:15

Wisdom

It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them. Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. —NLT Proverbs 13:19–20

Development

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. —NLT Proverbs 27:17

A Higher Return

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. —Ecclesiastes 4:9–10

3. I’ve overestimated a day and underestimated a month or two or three

Culture is drawn to the sensational… victory and success is for the faithful

4. Dream Chasing is a relay race for the ages…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin. —NLT Hebrews 12:1–4
