Romans: Living Sacrifices
Life Group Questions
Key Passages: Romans 12:1-2; Leviticus 5:14–19; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Galatians 5:19-21; Romans 8:29; Galatians 5:22-23

1. Read Romans 12:1
i. Reflect on the past three weeks through Romans 11; why is Paul “beseeching” or “urging, imploring” his audience to present their bodies as “living sacrifices?”

ii. What does the “mercies of God” accomplish in this context? Why would Paul choose “mercy” instead of “grace in his wording in this case?”

iii. Read Leviticus 5:14–19 (see also 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). What do we learn about being a “Living Sacrifice” from the Leviticus and 1 Corinthians passages?

iv. Paul informs his audience that being a “living sacrifice” is a “reasonable” or “rational” act of “service” or “worship.” Why is this?

v. What is the extent of this “act of worship?” What changes in a believer’s life if they begin to live as though this is true? Are you living in this manner as a living sacrifice? If not, what needs to change for you to do so?

2. Read Romans 12:2
i. Paul instructs his audience to “not be conformed to this world?” What does someone look like who has conformed to the world (see Galatians 5:19-21)? How does this contrast to being conformed to the “image of His Son” (Romans 8:29; Galatians 5:22-23)?

ii. Discuss the difference between Transformed and Metamorphosized in our current societal context. Why is it critical to make the distinction that there is no changing back to what we once were? How does this contrast with what you may have experienced within your church experience?

iii. What does it mean to “renew” your mind? Share how you have found success in “renewing” your mind.
