Message Notes

“He is reachable, knowable, available, and real. All alienation is removed. All strained formalities and religious protocol are erased. Not only is He here, but He is involved and interested in each individual on this speck-of-a-planet called earth.” —Chuck Swindoll

Four questions that deal with our most basic human problems:

  • Does God know me?

The problem of identity

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.” —Psalm 139:1-4

“But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” —Matthew 10:30

  • Is God close to me?

The Problem of Loneliness

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” —Psalm 139:7-10

“He is transcendent, which means He exists outside of the universe, beyond the scope of space, time, and the laws of physics. He is immensely greater and more powerful than all of the mass and matter of the universe combined. Yet, God is also immanent, which means He relates intimately and personally with each and every person. He manages the universe, yet knows every minute detail of 7 billion individual lives.” —Chuck Swindoll

  • How carefully has God made me?

The Problem of Self-Image

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” —Psalm 139:13

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.” —Psalm 139:14-16

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” —Psalm 139:16

  • How much will God help me?

The Problem of Fear and Worry About the Future

“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.” —Psalm 139:17-18

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” —1 Peter 5:7

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” —Psalm 139:23-24
