Transformed (metamorphosis) describes a change from within. The world wants to change our mind, so it exerts pressure from the outside. But God wants to transform our life from within by the renewing of our minds.

Colossians 3:9 -10 - Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

2 Timothy 3:16 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
*God’s goal for each of us would be that we would be transformed to REFLECT the very image of Jesus.

Big Idea:

Biblical commands without Biblical thinking result in short term obedience and long term frustration.

1. God is working IN YOU to transform your life by the renewing of your mind.

2. Renewal of mind leads to transformation that breaks down our STRUGGLE to God’s good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:1-2 - Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

3. Renewal is a two part process. It is taking OFF the old and PUTTING on the new.

*If you don’t learn to do this two part process, you will fall back to the way you think transformation happens, the same way that has failed you in the past.

John 8:31 -32 - “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Romans 12:2 - Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

4. What does it mean to take off the old and put on the new?

*It is to hide in your heart and mind SPECIFIC truths from the BIBLE to counter specific lies you believe.

5. In chapter 4 of Matthew’s gospel, Jesus models this idea. What I want you to see and hear is how Jesus responded to the specific temptation with a specific truth.

Matthew 4:1 -3 - Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said…

6. All three of the temptations were to get Jesus to misuse His power, to use His power outside of the will of God.

Matthew 4:3 – …“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Three Lies in each of these Temptations:

1. Jesus, you have a RIGHT to meet your own needs regardless of what God says.

- Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 4:5-6 - Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

2. Jesus, you need to PROVE yourself by your own actions.

Matthew 4:7 - Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Matthew 4:8-9 - Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

3. Jesus, you can take a SHORTCUT and have what God ultimately wants to give you.

Matthew 4:10-11 - Jesus said to him, “Away from me Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Challenge: Do you have an “It is WRITTEN,” or “I know I SHOULDN’T?”

*A transformed life is the result of a renewed mind, and a renewed mind is when you take off the old and put on the new.

*If we will begin to think and SEE as He thinks and sees, then we will begin to think and DO as He says.
