Series: Genesis: The God Who Creates
Sermon Title: Genesis | Part 29: God is Redemptive
Scripture: Genesis 33:1-11; Matthew 5:23-26
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil

Questions:

  1. What does it mean that God is redemptive? How does it affect our lives and how we treat others?

  2. During conflict with others our reactions can vary between flight, fight, or freeze (and a few others). In Genesis 27, Jacob chose flight and Esau chose fight. How do you usually respond to situations of conflict in relationships?

  3. In Genesis 33:3, Israel bows before Esau seven times. Why is this so significant?

  4. In verse 4, Esau runs to Jacob, hugs him, kisses him, and weeps. What do you think has happened with Esau over the 20 years that has lapsed since he had plotted to kill his brother?

  5. Regarding the “blessing” that Jacob brought to Esau, Pastor Mark explained that it served as a restitution from Jacob to Esau. In what ways does restitution serve the process of reconciliation between people?

  6. Read Matthew 5:23-26. Why is seeking reconciliation so important to Jesus? What happens if we refuse to seek it?

  7. What are the differences between forgiveness and reconciliation? How can you begin to incorporate the steps of reconciliation in your own life? When is reconciliation not possible (Romans 12:18).
