Message Notes

“Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, ‘Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us.’” Exodus 1:8–9

“10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. 13 So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves 14 and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves.” Exodus 1:10-14

“Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, ‘Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.’” Exodus 1:22

“There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
—Betsie ten Boom

  • “God does not have problems. Only plans.”

  • “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.”
—Corrie ten Boom

I) God Sees

“The people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. … And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant … God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.”
Exodus 2:23–25

II) God Knows

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.” Psalm 139:1

III) God Is Good

“9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So, the woman took the child and nursed him.10 When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”
Exodus 2:9-10

Three Powerful Truths We Can Learn from This Story:

1) Hard times don’t remove God’s promises.

2) Harsh treatment doesn’t escape God’s attention.

“7 Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, 8 and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians.
Exodus 3:7-8

3) Heavy tests don’t overshadow God’s concern.

“God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.”
Psalm 46:1

Reminds us: “28 We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28

“Faith is not believing in my own unshakable belief. Faith is believing an unshakable God.”
