Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
What is the difference between a vision and a mission?
A vision is the dream destination of our calling. Most likely it will never be realized in our lifetime, it is that big.
Our dream is to see “Life in Christ for every Alaskan and the world beyond.” We want to give every Alaskan a shot at the gospel.
Life in Christ means the fullness of salvation. We want to spread the eternal life of Christ’s salvation to every single Alaskan and the world beyond Alaska.
Salvation is a threefold reality:
1. We are justified and made righteous by the finished work of Jesus.
2. We are sanctified by the work of the Holy Spirit living in us. The Spirit through His Word and in His community.
3. We will be glorified when we meet Christ face to face in eternity.
A mission is the vehicle that takes us to our vision. It is not the vision itself but the means by which we arrive at our vision.
Our mission at Changepoint is: “to live as a community intentionally focused on cultivating the life of Christ in others.”
The vehicle by which we will arrive at our destination in giving every Alaskan a shot at the gospel is by walking with each other in Spirit-filled community helping each other grow in grace and step into God’s mission.
How does all of this actually work?
1. We have been authorized by God. Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
2. We have been given a specific strategy by God Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
3. We have been assured of the continuous presence of Christ Himself: Matthew 28:20 “…And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
