11.3.24 - Creed (Week 5)
Part of Creed (Message Notes)
October 31, 2024
Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
He ascended into heaven,
Is seated at the right hand of the Father,
And will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
I Believe in…The Forgiveness of Sins
Word: Sin
Romans 7:15
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
Romans 7:16-18
16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I
myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me,
that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
Sins of Commission: When we DO something that we should NOT do.
Sins of Omission: When we DON’T DO something that we SHOULD DO.
Sin: When someone knows better, but then does it anyway.
Our Question: What can remove my sin?
Mark 1:4-5
4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the
forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to
him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
John 1:29
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes
away the sin of the world!
Luke 22:19-20
19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body
given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my
blood, which is poured out for you.
Colossians 2:13-14
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made
you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal
indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the
cross.
Ephesians 4:32
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave
you.
John Wesley’s Covenant Prayer
I am no longer my own, but yours.
Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you,
Praised for you or criticized for you.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and fully surrender all things
To your glory and service.
And now, O wonderful and holy God,
Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer,
You are mine, and I am yours.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it also be made in heaven.
Amen.
