MY NOTES
Run to Win
2 Corinthians 10:3 NIV
[3] For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.2 Corinthians 10:4 NLT
[4] We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.
MY NOTES
2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV
[5] casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ1 Corinthians 9:24 NLT
[24] Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!Proverbs 28:1 NIV
[1] The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.2 Timothy 1:6 NLT
[6] This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.
MY NOTES
1 Timothy 6:11-12 NIV
[11] But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. [12] Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT
[10] A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. [11] Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. [12] For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. [13] Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.S [14] tand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. [15] For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. [16] In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. [17] Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.[18] Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
MY NOTES
Matthew 5:5 NIV
[5] Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.Matthew 25:14-30 ESV
[14] “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. [15] To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. [16] He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. [17] So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. [18] But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. [19] Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. [20] And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ [21] His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ [22] And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ [23] His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’[24] He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed [25] so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ [26] But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? [27] Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. [28] So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. [29] For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. [30] And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’Matthew 25:25 NLT
[25] I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
MY NOTES
Satan brings fear of failure to us to cause us to shrink back from living a life of purpose and destiny – to keep us from making a difference – to cause us to play it safe rather than to live by faith.
And you WERE CREATED and SAVED for a PURPOSE – to make a difference
Jeremiah 1:5 NLT
[5] “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”2 Timothy 1:9 NIV
[9] He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of timePhilippians 2:13 NIV
[13] for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
MY NOTES
10 Concepts to Help us Break the Stronghold that is the Fear of Failure.
1) Perspective: Failures and setbacks are inevitable for those determined to do great things.
- Proverbs 24:16 NIV
[16] for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
2) People – There are people God intends for you to reach and bless that won’t be if you allow fear of failure to keep you from stepping out.
Nehemiah 4:14 NIV
[14] After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”1 Chronicles 19:13 NASB2020
[13] Be strong, and let’s show ourselves courageous for the benefit of our people and the cities of our God; and may the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
MY NOTES
Fear of failure often leads to
3) Procrastination and
4) Presumption
Enemy operates in procrastination and presumption: One day or some day.
God’s word is give us “this day”
Proverbs 27:1 NASB2020
[1] Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring.James 4:13-14 NIV
[13] Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” [14] Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.James 4:17 NIV
[17] If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.James 4:17 NLT
[17] Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
MY NOTES
Faith calls us to:
5) Priority
6) Pursuit
- Matthew 6:33 NLT
[33] Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
7) God’s Presence
Active, forward moving, faith-filled lives draw us to God’s PRESENCE
Matthew 14:24-33 NLT
[24] Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. [25] About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. [26] When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” [27] But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” [28] Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” [29] “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. [30] But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. [31] Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” [32] When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. [33] Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.John 15:5 NKJV
[5] “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
MY NOTES
8) Perseverance
Sometimes things are not going to go our way right away.
Romans 2:7 NIV
[7] To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.Romans 2:7 NLT
[7] He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.Hebrews 12:1-4 NLT
[1] Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. [2] We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. [3] Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. [4] After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.Hebrews 10:36 NIV
[36] You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
9) Persevering connects us to God’s process
Joseph – called to greatness, to be a world changer but the process to get to the palace took him through the pit and the prison.
What seemed like it would prevent the promise, actually had a purpose.
The process has a purpose.
We tend to pray and say, “God promote me, but perhaps the better prayer is “God prepare me”
MY NOTES
10) Past failures do not define future success
Proverbs 24:16 NLT
[16] The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.Proverbs 28:13 Living Bible (TLB)
[13] A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.Psalms 103:12 NIV
[12] as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.Zechariah 4:10 NLT
[10] Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.)1 Corinthians 15:57 NIV
[57] But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
