Sermon Title: The Joy In Being Content
Scripture: Philippians 4:10–13
Speaker: Pastor Chris Clark
Questions:
How does it make you feel when you see others following Jesus with their whole hearts, obeying His commands, and being used by Him?
When Paul talks in Philippians 4:11 about “learning” to be content, what are some of the truths implied in his statement? How do those truths encourage you today?
Looking at Philippians 4:12, Paul talks about being in seasons where he was in
abundance, when he was full. Have you had seasons in life where you had all that you needed, yet struggled with contentment? Why was that the case?
Thinking again on those seasons of abundance, have there been times when that abundance dulled you with regard to seeking to follow Jesus wholeheartedly? Why do you think that was the case?
Also in Philippians 4:12, Paul spoke about those life seasons where he was in
need, when he didn’t have enough, when he was hungry. Have you experienced those life seasons yourself? Did those seasons create a struggle with contentment? What do you think caused that struggle?
Paul was able to be content regardless of his circumstances because of the fact that he was “in Christ,” and Christ was enough for him. Has that been the case for you? Is Jesus enough? Or do you struggle with wanting “Jesus-Plus?”
According to Philippians 4:13, what is the truth about your capacity to be content with just Jesus Christ present in your life?
