Rhythm of Life: Sabbath & Fasting

Romans 14:5-8; Exodus 20:8-11; Matthew 6:16-18


Followers of Jesus ought to live our lives to God.


Question: What is the sabbath?
The sabbath refers to the of the week.


The sabbath is rooted in God’s perfect design for how we .


Question: Is the command to sabbath still an obligation for Christians?
There is a difference between God’s laws and God’s laws.


Keeping the sabbath as part of our life rhythms is not about our obligation under the law; it’s about living out for us.


Why should we practice the rhythm of sabbath?
1. To follow


2. To give our bodies


3. To center in Jesus


“Sabbath is one of clearest signs of the gospel. You accomplish nothing and God still loves you.” (Rich Villodas)


4. To take time to


“Sabbath is an entire day of your week – one-seventh of your life – set aside to not only stop and rest but also delight in and worship the God who made you to be with Himself. It’s a day to cultivate joy in a world of sadness.” (John Mark Comer)


Question: What is fasting?
Fasting is for a specified amount of time.


Jesus His followers to fast as an expression of their faith.


Why should we practice the rhythm of fasting?
1. To practice

“[In fasting], you are learning to be joyful, even when you don’t get what you want. You are practicing suffering and, through it, increasing your capacity for joy in all circumstances.” (John Mark Comer)

How do we live out Sabbath & Fasting?
