Introduction:

The Acts of the Apostles is a book in the Bible that shows the Holy Spirit in action in the people who followed Jesus after His resurrection. It emphasizes a “Go and Be” lifestyle. This collection highlights the ministries of Peter and Paul through the eyes of the book’s author, Luke. Luke retells the stories of the first Church focusing on its formation, fervor, and fortitude.

“These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too,” —Acts 17:6b

The key verse Acts 1:8 provides the outline for the entire book:

  • The Formation of the Church – Jerusalem (1:1-7:60)
  • The Fervor of the Church – Judea and Samaria (8:1-12:25)
  • The Fortitude of the Church – Uttermost Parts of the Earth (13:1-28:31)

In this collection, we will look at the sermons that Peter and Paul preached that led to the spread of the story that Jesus is alive.

Text: Acts 26-28 (CSB, New Testament)

Today’s Takeaway: Truth changes our perspective.

Week 10 - GO AND BE TRUTHFUL

I. TRUTH DRIVES (Acts 26)

A. Paul

his story again. (26:1-23)

B. Paul’s story

the Gospel. (26:24-32)

“I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. 15Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you. 16In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.” —Philippians 3:14-16

II. TRUTH DRIVES (Acts 27)

A. Paul

for Rome. (Acts 27:1-26)

B. Paul

the truth in a storm and is shipwrecked. (Acts 27:27-44)

C. Paul is

to the truth and is safe. (Acts 28:1-10)

WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM PAUL’S BEHAVIOR:

  1. Instead of avoiding personal troubles, he himself before the authorities.
  2. He cultivated confidence in facing and navigating through suffering.
  3. Loss of personal well-being numerous doors, providing ample ministry opportunities.
  4. Trials, imprisonment, and injustice propelled him steadily toward his goal.
  5. Acknowledging the possibility of death, he to accept, embrace, and leverage suffering for the benefit of the Gospel.
  6. Enduring suffering meant expanding the Gospel to areas of need and contributing to the spread of Jesus’ message.
  7. He from elevating his suffering over Christ’s suffering, treating it seriously and deeply.

“My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death, 11assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.” —Philippians 3:10-11

III. TRUTH DRIVES (Acts 28)

A. Paul

it to Rome. (Acts 28:11-22)

B. Paul

to preach truth. (Acts 28:23-30)

What happened to Paul and how did he die for the truth?

According to early Christian tradition and various historical writings, it is widely believed that Paul was

in Rome during the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8There is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved his appearing.” —2 Timothy 4:7-8
