BiG Idea: Loving God and Loving our neighbors go together

Luke 10:25
25 Then an expert in the law stood up to test him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Luke 10:26
26 “What is written in the law?” he asked him. “How do you read it?”

Luke 10:27
27 He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,” and “your neighbor as yourself.”,

Luke 10:28
28 “You’ve answered correctly,” he told him. “Do this and you will live.”

Luke 10:29
29 But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Who is my neighbor?

How do I love my neighbor?

Luke 10:30
30 Jesus took up the question and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him up, and fled, leaving him half dead.

Luke 10:31-32
31 A priest happened to be going down that road. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

and keep us from loving our neighbors

Numbers 19:11–13
11 “The person who touches any human corpse will be unclean for seven days. 12 He is to purify himself with the water on the third day and the seventh day; then he will be clean. But if he does not purify himself on the third and seventh days, he will not be clean. 13 Anyone who touches a body of a person who has died, and does not purify himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD. That person will be cut off from Israel. He remains unclean because the water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him, and his uncleanness is still on him.

Luke 10:33
33 But a Samaritan on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion.

Loving our neighbor takes

Compassion: to be in the inward parts

Luke 7:13-15 (emphasis added)
13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said, “Don’t weep.” 14 Then he came up and touched the open coffin, and the pallbearers stopped. And he said, “Young man, I tell you, get up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.

Luke 15:20 (emphasis added)
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him.

Luke 10:33 (emphasis added)
33 But a Samaritan on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion.

Luke 10:34–37
34 He went over to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on olive oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him. When I come back I’ll reimburse you for whatever extra you spend.’ 36 “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” 37 “The one who showed mercy to him,” he said. Then Jesus told him, “Go and do the same.”

My neighbor is anyone God puts in my
