Activity: His Name/My Name
Part 1.
God has many different names in the Bible, each name having a different meaning. As a group, find at least 5 different names God has been called below and why they stood out to you. Feel free to use the internet, your Bible, or any other resource that would be helpful.
Part 2.
Now that you and your group have found 5 different names of God, it is time to find the origin of each name. Finding the origin of each name is what gives us a better understanding of the word and how to properly use it.
In the slots below write where each word was derived from. Feel free to use the internet, your Bible, or any other resource that would be helpful.
Part 3.
Now that we know where the 5 names of God originated, we need to use that information to better understand our Bible. For this last section use any resource you need to find a scripture where each name of God that you picked can be found or referenced.
Personal:
From the exercises above I hope you found the importance of a name and the meaning behind each name. In this section, this is something that should be done individually. I want you to think of at least 5 names that other people have called you, that you have answered to. Some names may be good and some names may not be so good. Write those names down below that have made an impact on how you and/or your life.
Conclusion:
As you reflect on the names that people have called you, I want you to think of the effect that name has had on your life. How have being called those names made you feel or act? Has being called those names made a difference in how you think or express yourself? Each name that is given to us by someone else, good or bad, is not as important as the one that God gave us. Below I want you to write a prayer for yourself to see the importance of the name that God has given you.
