I. NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU’VE RUN, GOD’S GRACE
Jonah 3:1- Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time.
II. NO MATTER HOW BIG YOUR MESS, GOD’S GRACE
Jonah 2:10 - Then the Lord ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the
beach.
III. NO MATTER HOW DEEP YOUR SHAME, GOD’S GRACE
Jonah 3:5b, 6b- …they declared a fast…to show their [sorrow]… the king of Nineveh…dressed himself in burlap and sat on a heap of ashes.
SHAME VS. HUMILITY
Shame chains you
Humility changes you
Shame looks down
Humility looks up
Shame says, “I’m ruined.”
Humility says, “I’m redeemable.”
Shame hides
Humility kneels
Shame is self-punishment
Humility is self-surrender
Joel 2:13- “Don’t tear your clothing in grief, but tear your hearts instead.
Return to the Lord your God, for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to
get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
