The Gospel of Luke - Jesus Raises the Widow’s Son

Luke 7:11-17

Lord - Greek word is “Kyrios”
Kyrios is the Greek word for Adonai, the Hebrew word that is used in the Old Testament for the highest title for God. Which means, the sovereign one who rules over all with all authority and power.

  1. The Compassion of Jesus: (vs.13,15)

    • And when the Lord saw her, he has compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” (Luke 7:13)
    • Greek word for Compassion is “splagchnizonai”
    • To be moved to ones bowels. There is no other Greek word that is more expressive of feeling sympathy.
    • And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. (Luke 7:15)

  2. Our Death Doesn’t Destroy His Divinity:

    • Bier - used to carry a dead body to the burial site. Coffin like box without a top to it.
    • Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.”
    • Your sin isn’t too great to Jesus
    • Your past doesn’t disqualify you from being used by God.
    • We have to stop looking at all the reasons why or what we can’t do and look at what He can do in and through us.

  3. Our Resurrected life glorifies God and affects others around us:

    • Luke 7:16-17, 16Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” 17And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.”
