Sermon: Communing with God
Scripture: John 17:6-12
Summary: Prayer – it is something so fundamental to being a Christian, yet it is something which so many find so hard. If this is you then you need to listen in as Peter considers not just what Jesus prays, but how he prays. When it comes to prayer, there is no one better to learn from than Jesus himself.
For Reflection and Discussion
Read Scripture: John 17:6-12
- How is your prayer life going?
- What is prayer?
- What is the ultimate purpose of prayer?
- Read Matthew 6:5-15. Does God’s knowledge of everything fuel your prayer or stop it? Why?
- How frequently do your prayers have the shape of a story? Take a moment as a group to pray and tell the Father about some things which happened in the past week.
- Where have you seen the following dynamic at work: There is an interconnectedness to requests in healthy relationships. What examples can you think of?
- Read Romans 8:26-27. When was the last time you felt like you couldn’t pray? What was happening? What hope does it give you that the Spirit lives in you and prays on your behalf when you don’t know what to pray?
