Build Community Title 1.jpg
Devotional for July 8-12, 2024

Message Recap:

On Sunday, we explored the profound truth that we are created for relationships - with God and with others. Pastor Brent draws from Genesis 1 and 2 to illustrate how God, existing in Trinity, is inherently relational. We’re reminded that being made in God’s image means we’re designed for community. The analogy of a ‘Barrel of Monkeys’ game vividly portrays how our relationships can be both fun and challenging. We’re encouraged to reflect on how our interactions with others can mirror God’s image and bring Him glory. This message challenges us to examine our own relationships with both God and others.

Devotional Guide:

Day 1: Created for Relationship - Genesis 1:26-31
God’s nature is inherently relational, as evidenced by the Trinity’s presence at creation. When God said, “Let us make mankind in our image,” He revealed His desire for relationship with us and among us. As beings created in God’s image, we are designed for connection—with God and with others.

Today, reflect on how your relationships reflect God’s image. Are you nurturing meaningful connections that bring glory to God? Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in deepening your relationships and to help you see others as fellow image-bearers of God.

Day 2: The Gift of Community - 2:15-25
God declared that it was not good for man to be alone, highlighting our need for community. Even in a perfect environment, Adam needed companionship beyond his relationship with God. This teaches us that human relationships are part of God’s design for our flourishing.

Consider the communities you’re part of—family, friends, church. How are these relationships enriching your life and faith? If you’re feeling isolated, pray for God to provide meaningful connections and the courage to pursue them.

Day 3: Healing in Relationship - James 5:13-16
Our relationships can be sources of both joy and pain. James encourages us to pray together, confess to one another, and seek healing within the community of faith. This vulnerability can be challenging, but it’s in these moments of openness that we often experience God’s love most profoundly.

Is there a burden you need to share with a trusted friend or spiritual mentor? Take a step towards healing by reaching out to someone today, remembering that in our weakness, God’s strength is perfected.

Day 4: Reflecting God’s Love - 1 John 4:7-12
John reminds us that love comes from God and that we are called to love one another as a reflection of God’s love for us. Our relationships are meant to be conduits of divine love, showcasing God’s character to the world.

How can you more intentionally demonstrate God’s love in your interactions today? Look for opportunities to extend grace, forgiveness, or kindness to others, remembering that in doing so, you’re reflecting the image of your Creator.

Day 5: Building Kingdom Community - Acts 2:42-47
The early church provides a powerful model of community—one marked by devotion to God’s Word, fellowship, breaking bread together, and prayer. This vibrant community attracted others and led to growth.

As you consider your role in building community, how can you contribute to creating a welcoming, loving environment that draws people to Christ? Pray for wisdom and opportunities to foster genuine connections within your church and beyond, remembering that as you build community, you’re participating in God’s kingdom work.
