Series: Easter
Sermon Title: He is Risen!
Scripture: Luke 24:13-34
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil

Questions:

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 15:16-17. If Jesus died to take away our sins (John 1:29), why is Jesus’ resurrection so vital to this work on the cross?

  2. Who were the first witnesses to the resurrection? Why is this significant?

  3. Why is the resurrection the most important event in history? How has it changed your life? How does it give us hope? What questions does it answer for our lives and faith?

  4. In Luke 24:15-16, we read that while Cleopas and his companion were traveling, that the risen Jesus appeared and began to walk with them. However, those two did not recognize Jesus, because “their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.” Why do you suppose their eyes were kept from recognizing Him? (Hint: a possible reason might be found in verse 27)

  5. Read Luke 24:21. Does it seem to you that Cleopas and his companion believed that Jesus would rise from the dead? What evidence in this verse supports your conclusion?

  6. Read Luke 24:23-24. Do you think they believed the report from the women who said they saw angels who told them that Jesus was alive? Reading particularly from verse 24, what evidence does it seem that they were going to need before they believed that Jesus was alive?

  7. Read Luke 24:27. What do you think that Bible study led by Jesus Himself—He “interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself”—must have been like? How do you think you might have responded if you were in the place of those two men who were now students at the feet of the Author? What do you think the men meant when they asked each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”

  8. How does knowing the fact that Jesus conquered death once and for all and lives today give you confidence and hope for your life?
