Series Title: Advent
Sermon Title: Part 3 - Peace
Scripture: Luke 2:22-38
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil
Questions:
Explain in your own words how Jesus’ birth ushers in peace on the earth.
Read Isaiah 9:6. Why is Jesus called the Prince of Peace?
When Isaiah states in Isaiah 9:7 that “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end,” what do you think that means?
In Romans 5:1, Paul tells us that we, having been justified by faith, have peace “with” God through Jesus. What does that mean?
Read Philippians 4:7. Paul describes the peace “of” God guarding our hearts and minds in Christ. He also describes it as “surpassing all understanding.” How would you try to explain the peace “of” God?
In the preceding verse (Philippians 4:6), Paul explains how we should respond to anxious thoughts or moments: we should pray with thanksgiving, bringing the matter to God. How does that verse help you to understand the peace “of” God that He wants to give in exchange for your anxious thoughts?
In Romans 14:19, Paul urges us as followers of Jesus to pursue the things that produce peace and for the building up of each other. How does “the things which produce peace” tie into “the building up of each other?”
In James 3:17, James characterizes the “wisdom from above” as being pure, then peaceable. He then states in v.18 that a “harvest of righteousness” is sown “in peace” by those who “make peace.” If this is our responsibility as disciples—to make peace—what are practical ways we can go about doing that?
In Romans 16:20, Paul promises us that the God of peace will soon crush Satan under our feet. How does God’s peace and power protect us in spiritual warfare
What is at least one way you intend to access God’s peace—the peace “with” God; the peace “of” God; the making of peace with others—this Advent season?
