God, The Savior of Me

There is no more appropriate Sunday than this one to focus on when the King came to earth. Jesus’ coming is one of the most magnificent moments in history. If you choose to use this week as a time of praise and thanksgiving for His coming, you must come to appreciate and understand the mission He undertook. His coming had a distinct purpose, which goes back to the heart of who God is.

I. The Greatness of His Name

A. Exodus 3:14: God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites:

has sent me to you.” God is speaking of his eternal existence.

B. Exodus 3:12: I will certainly be with you, …God the eternal one … and He is present with his people.

C. Exodus 3:17: And I have promised you that I will

from the misery of Egypt… deliverance.

D. Exodus 6:2: I am the Lord. “I am the I am.” I am the eternal one, near his people to redeem them.

  1. v. 3: He appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as El Shaddai, God the Almighty One.

  2. Now, God will demonstrate Himself as the saving God of the covenant.

a) Exodus 6:6: I will

you with an outstretched arm and great acts of judgment.

b) Exodus 6:7: I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the Lord your God, …. I am the Lord.”

E. Jesus is the I AM. John 8:58: Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.”

II. The Old Testament Proclaims God is a Savior

A. Isaiah 63:8–10: he became their Savior. In all their suffering, he suffered, …He redeemed them because of his love and compassion; he

them up and carried them all the days of the past.

B. Nationally…. He delivered them from sickness and trouble and danger and death.

C. Spiritually

  1. Isaiah 55:7: Let the wicked one abandon his way and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, so he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will freely

    .

  2. Micah 7:18: Who is

    , forgiving iniquity and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not hold on to his anger forever because he delights in faithful love.

D. When John Was Born

  1. Luke 1:68-69, 77: Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and provided redemption for his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, …to give his people knowledge of through the forgiveness of their sins.

III. When He Came…

A. Many understood Malachi 4:2: But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall

B. Luke 2:11 - The Shepherds Praised God: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the

, the Lord.

C. Luke 2:29-30 - Simeon Praised God: Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace, as you promised. For my eyes have seen your salvation.

D. Luke 2:38 - Anna Praised God: At that very moment, she came up and began to thank God and to speak about him to all who were looking forward to the

of Jerusalem.

E. Matthew 2:11 - The Magi Praised God: Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they

him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

IV. As We Close…

A. Luke 2:11: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.

B. And for that, he deserves your unending praise, worship, and submission. Have you surrendered to your King?
