Taking it Further to Help You THRIVE…
- Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
2. Just as the Jews were (3:2) entrusted with the oracles of God (and other things we will study later on in Romans 9), we have been entrusted with much as well. As believers in Christ, with what have we been entrusted? How can we be good stewards of that with which we have been entrusted?
3. Some people today argue that God is not righteous (verses 3-8). What are some reasons they give? How does Paul respond to this logic?
4. God gets glory (praise, recognition, honor) even when we sin! What are some examples of this from the Bible? If He gets glory in these situations (and He does!), then are we responsible / held accountable for these sins? Explain.
5. In verse 9, Paul says that both Jews and Greeks are “under sin.” (Greeks/Gentiles are non-Jews, so Paul is speaking about everyone!) He didn’t say everyone is sinful, but under sin. What does this mean? Contrast this with the individual who receives the gift of salvation from Jesus Christ. What is the biggest difference?
6. Folks often say, “There is good in everyone” or “Basically, I am a good person.” What might people mean when they say these words? In today’s verses we read “No one does good, not even one” (verse 12), as well as many others truths Paul spoke from the Old Testament that paint a bleak picture of the heart and status of mankind without Christ. How could we respond to someone who says they are a good person? Who says they are not a sinner? Who says they are not that bad?
7. According to our verses today, what is the purpose of the Law? What can it do? What can it not do? We have studied that the Mosaic Law was given to the Jews and not to us. But what is the application here for each of us?
