
The Promise Part 3 - Spirit-Filled Community

In this series we’re focusing on the ongoing outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and His work and ministry in and through followers of Jesus today.
The Day of Pentecost was when the Promise of the Father was
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me. —Acts 1:4
- There are two
For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” —Acts 2:39
The Promise of the Father is for
The Promise makes us
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” —Acts 1:8
The promise is a baptism into a life in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit works in us to develop the character of Jesus,
There are

fulfillment of the Promise is yet to come!
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy. —Joel 2:16-18“This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” —Acts 1:11
- There have been greater and greater
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. —Matthew 24:14
2. God fills individuals, but the outpouring of the Holy Spirit consistently happens
community.
- The promise is
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. —Acts 2:4
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. —Acts 4:31
Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. —Acts 8:17
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” —Acts 9:17
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. —Acts 10:44-46
6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all. —Acts 19:6-7
There is not one example where a believer was filled
Whether it was a small or larger group, the Holy Spirit choose to move in the context of the
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” —Matthew 18:20
- One of the ways we become a people that the dove lands and
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” —John 13:35
If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. —1 John 4:12

Dwell Together - to remain together, abide together,
Believers get filled with the Spirit in
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart. —Acts 2:46
