SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE
CONVERSATION STARTER
How have you seen the service of others strengthen and build up our church family? Do you have any uplifting stories to share?
DEEPER
Read Romans 12:4-8
How can you discern whether you have the spiritual gift of service or if you are simply fulfilling the general call to serve?
Though not everyone has the spiritual gift of service, everyone is commanded by God to serve the church family. Where do you currently serve, and why? If you haven’t started serving yet, what’s holding you back? Where might God be calling you to serve?
Galatians 5:13 tells us to “serve one another humbly in love.” How does humility play a role in genuine service? What are some ways pride can distort our service?
Many people undervalue the gift of service, seeing it as “ordinary.” How can we, as a church and as individuals, better affirm and appreciate those with this gift?
How does the example in Acts 6:1-7 help us understand the relationship between preaching and service? Why is it important that both roles function properly in the church?
What stood out to you in this week’s sermon? What were your biggest takeaways?
Group prayer activity: In your group, discuss the different ways each member has served both you and the group, and take a moment to thank God for how their contributions have helped strengthen and build up your community.
