The Correct Response to Christ’s Love!
John 13:9-17
“9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” 11 For He knew who was to betray Him; that was why He said, “Not all of you are clean.”12 When He had washed their feet and put on His outer garments and resumed His place, He said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” (John 13:9-17, ESV)
“16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16)
“16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
“34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
“…having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” (John 13:1)
1. Love Through Forgiveness!
v. 11 For He knew who was to betray Him; that was why He said, “Not all of you are clean.”
2. Love Through Humble Service!
“5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8)
“Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God.” (Romans 5:9)
“23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took bread, 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, “This is My body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-24).
“25 In the same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:25-26)
