Matthew 6:16-18 ESV
Fasting grows your faith and matures your

to a greater degree than any other spiritual discipline.

  1. What is fasting? Fasting is a predetermined denial of usually food for specific

    .

    a. Fasting from food:
    -

    fast — no food, only water
    - fast — only water & veggies and/or fruit
    - — no food, no water
    - Duration: , one day, three days, up to 40 days
    b. Secondary types of fasting:
    - fast is a call to deeper prayer 1 Corinthians 7:3-5
    - fast is a call to return to God Joel 2:12-13
    - Misc fast from social media, TV, news, politics, etc.
    c. motives for fasting:
    - or mental focus
    - to gain from God or others
    d. motives for fasting:
    - 2 Samuel 1:11-12
    - Daniel 9:3-6
    - 1 Samuel 1:7
    - Seeking Acts 13:1-3
