Discussion Questions – Creed: Week 1
Getting to Know Me Questions:
- What is your earliest memory of a song? Can you still sing all the words?
- Did you learn or memorize the Apostles Creed at some point? When/what for etc
Into the Bible Questions:
- What’s something from this week’s teaching that you learned, that stood out, interesting
etc?
- The first part of the Apostles Creed says this…
“I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.”
- The word “Creed” means “I believe”.
READ: 1 Peter 3:15-16
- What thoughts, emotions or experiences come up after reading this verse?
Read: John 1:1-5
- The Greek for “Word” here is Logos (log'-os) – Jesus is personal
3 “arguments” for the existence of God:
1. Moral argument – How can moral creatures exist without a moral creator?
2. Cosmological Argument – Where does it all begin? Where do I begin?
3. Evidence of Design – From the Micro to the Macro everything is perfectly in place
- Of these three, has there been one or more that you have struggled with in a belief in
God?
- Have you had experiences with others having a struggle with one? How have those
conversations gone? Why?
- “Belief in God is meant to fundamentally change our perspective on the world, on our
place it and on our own lives.” – Reverand Author Adam Hamilton
- A belief in God is great, but if it hasn’t changed us then why does it matter?
READ: Galatians 5:22-23
- When we give, serve, act, speak, respond etc it comes from our core belief in God which
has changed us. From the things listed in Galatians 5 which one is the most difficult for
you on a regular basis with others? Why? (Reminder: It’s ok, none of us have it figure out)
Application:
- “Christian faith is meant to fundamentally and positively affect those who believe and the
world in which they live.” – Reverand Author Adam Hamilton
This week, pray, sing, read, talk, listen or however with/to Jesus. Discover what area we
need to move from belief to action in our lives?
CLOSE: Say the Apostles Creed together
Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*That is, the true Christian church of all times and all places.
This creed is called the Apostles' Creed not because it was produced by the apostles themselves but because
it contains a brief summary of the Christian faith in scripture. In its present form it is dated no later than the
fourth century. More than any other Christian creed, it may justly be called an ecumenical symbol of faith.
