1. We can have hope in our darkest hour because Jesus took our judgement.
Matthew 27:45 / CSB, “From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness came over the whole land.”“

John 1:5 / ESV, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

2. We can be secure in knowing that Jesus spared us from separation.
Matthew 27:46 / CSB, About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Elí, Elí, lemá sabachtháni?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Romans 8:38-39 / NLT, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

3. We can get right with God by responding to the cross with faith.
Matthew 27:47 / CSB, “When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling for Elijah.”

Matthew 27:54 / CSB, When the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

Second Corinthians 5:21 / NLT, “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
