And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:16-17 NLT

Rooted disciples are church going disciples.

Four marks of a Bible based church service:
1. Bible based preaching

  • Preaching is God’s chosen mode of sharing the truth of Jesus.
  • For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1 Corinthians 1:21
  • God uses preaching to help me become more like Christ.
  • All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT

    • 2. Formative connecting
  • Church the way God designed requires us to connect with others.
  • Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV

    • 1.) Greeting each other
    2.) Praying for each other
    3.) Encouraging each other

    3. Passionate singing and music
  • Church the way God designed includes us singing to God with a heart of gratitude.
  • Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord— rejoice in his presence! Psalms 68:4 NLT
  • Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. James 5:13 ESV
  • The singing in a church God designed is to reinforce what is shared in the preaching.

    • Types of Songs:
    1.) Psalms
    2.) Hymns
    3.) Spiritual Songs

    4. Christ focused disciples
  • Worshipers in scripture focused their lives less on themselves and more on who Christ wanted them to be.
  • I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 ESV
  • Christ focused disciples made corporate worship a priority because it was a priority to God.
  • And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25a NLT
  • You are the body of Christ
  • You want to be used by God
  • You want to be equipped
  • You go to church to get ready for heaven
  • Attending church consistently helps me keep righteous rhythms that honors God.
