Sermon Title: On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand

He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands

“A scared world needs a fearless church.” —A.W. Tozer

Trusting in God and His Teachings Makes us Fearless

Psalm 112:1

New King James Version [ NKJV ]

1 Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments.

7 Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

8 his heart is established; he will not be afraid.

NOT SHAKEN!

Hebrews 12:25-29 (HCSB)

25 Make sure that you do not reject the One who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected Him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from Him who warns us from heaven.

26 His voice shook the earth at that time, but now He has promised, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also heaven.

27 Now this expression, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what can be shaken — that is, created things — so that what is not shaken might remain.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,

29 for our God is a consuming fire. —Hebrews 12:25-29 (HCSB)

What is God doing when the shaking comes?

What is the purpose of refining fire?

What might God be doing in this season of shaking and refining?

I’m not saying that God caused this or is using the Corona virus as some sort of punishment. He will, however, use it like a bootcamp to build our faith so that we who cherish Him and His ways will come out more refined and more stable with our hearts and homes more established on the bedrock of Jesus Christ. —Jeff Fuson

3 Purposes of Seasons of Shaking

1. To see what’s inside of us.

If you shake a Coke Bottle what comes out?

God may minister to you by helping you refine what’s in you.

2. Shaking rattles our foundations to see where we have built on faulty places.

Foundations being shaken today:
Jobs / Health / Business / 401k / Investment Portfolios / Relationships

Proverbs 18:11

A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. —Proverbs 18:11 (ESV)

Most of our ‘foundations’ are imaginary and this season of shaking is revealing where the fault lines are.

3. Christ Invites You to Build On His Rock Solid Foundation

What Jesus says about foundations in Matthew 7:24-27 (ESV)

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” —Matthew 7:24-27 (ESV)

Where is the rock that Jesus teaches us to build on?

The ‘Red Letters’ in your Bible are the foundations of a rock-solid life.

Jesus invites you to see where your foundations have been shaken and found faulty and to turn to Him and build on His rock solid ways.

Psalm 112:1

1 Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments.

7 Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

8 his heart is established; he will not be afraid. —Psalm 112:1 New King James Version [ NKJV ]

Let’s lock arms and build our lives on the teachings of Jesus and let us individually and collectively become the church the world needs right now.
