Week 8: 1 Timothy 5:1-16

Overview: As Paul’s letter continues to instruct Timothy, we find out how to have proper relationships within the church body. This is godliness in action. Younger persons are to respect older persons, and we are to treat each other as mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Our family relationships are to encompass all other relationships with the same kind of connectedness. Bill and Gloria Gaither sing a song called “The Family of God”. Some of the words say, “I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God. I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood. Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, for I’m part of the family, the Family of God. You will notice we say, ‘brother and sister’ ‘round here; it’s because we’re a family, and these folks are so near; when one has a heartache, we all share the tears, and rejoice in each victory in this family so dear”. Treating each other like we would if we were family lets us belong and be in our proper place. Our family ties with Christ’s body of believers are empowered by Christ. He can give us the right regard to behave toward others in honor and Christian love. We are members of the same family!

Write out word for word the key verse of the passage in which God spoke to you and include the scripture reference.

Pray and ask God to remind you during the day about what you just learned and through the power of the Holy Spirit, you will apply these principles to your life.
Spend time just talking with God; take some time in Adoration, some time in Confession, some time in Thanksgiving, and some time in Supplication (making requests).

Day 5: 1 Timothy 5:1-16
Reread the passage for the week and ask God to give you eyes to see His truth and how He wants it to specifically impact your life. Review each day’s notes and highlight/identify what stood out to you most and why.
