Series: Romans – Grasping The Gospel
Sermon Title: Part 49 – The Power to Love our Enemies
Scripture: Romans 12:14-21
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil
Questions:
How do you typically respond to someone who does you wrong? Do you retaliate, stop talking, hold a grudge… or something else? Or, is it a combination of reactions?
In what ways does Romans 12:14 run so counter to our typical responses to personal injustices? Where does the power come from to be able to bless instead of curse?
In what ways do you see Romans 12:17 relate to the exhortation in Romans 12:9?
As you read Romans 12:19, how does the Lord’s promise that he will repay the injustice that you might suffer influence the way you respond to that injustice in the moment? How do we leave “vengeance to God” while still pursuing justice?
How would you grade yourself when it comes to doing that which Paul urges in Romans 12:21? Why would you give yourself such a grade?
How do you think our world would change if we who follow Christ were actively living out Paul’s directions in Romans 12:21 to overcome evil with good?
Is there a grudge or bitterness that you are holding onto? How will you surrender that to the Lord?
What does it mean to rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep?
