- Read 1 Kings 12:1-15 aloud. What was at stake in Rehoboam’s response to Jeroboam’s request?
- Mike identified four kinds of counsel from this passage: Wise counsel should include those with (1) a different experience, (2) a greater familiarity, (3) a bigger perspective, and (4) nothing to gain. Briefly discuss the importance of each of these.
- WARNING! Vulnerability ahead: Is anyone willing to share a foolish decision they’ve made that would likely have been avoided if you had sought counsel first?
- When seeking direction, one of the greatest gifts God has given us is the experience, knowledge, and perspective of others. Do you have an example of a wise decision that was the product of seeking the counsel of others?
- Paul tells us in Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” When facing a tough decision (or the consequences of a foolish decision in the past), why is important to remember this promise?
