Message: Pursuing Peace
Text: Hebrews 12:14-17
Big idea
We are to make every effort to pursue peace with everyone because God has made peace with us in Jesus.
A framework for peace
1. The reality: There is no way we can be at peace
John 7:1; Hebrews 11:35-39
2. The key question: It is not, “Does everyone
Mt.5:9; Hebrews 12:14; Romans 12:18; 14:19; Proverbs 15:1
Two filters:
A. If I am genuinely pursuing peace, then I will not let your actions determine my response.
B. If I am genuinely pursuing peace, then I will put peace above fairness and saving face.
The pursuit of peace
1. At home: Stop
1 Corinthians 13:4-5; Proverbs 19:11
At church:
Do not expect everyone to
Do not try to fix
Ephesians 4:3; Colossians 3:12-15In the workplace and community:
Do not expect non-Christians to
Treat your enemies like Jesus
1 Corinthians 5:9-10; Titus 3:1-5
