Three Truths to Remember

Theme of Romans: Romans 1:16, 17

Romans is the clearest, most in-depth look at the Gospel in all of scripture. But and here is where most people miss the boat, the book is not just to explain the Gospel to unbelievers; it’s primarily a book written to Christians to take Christians deeper into the Gospel. —Pastor J.D.Greer

Truth One

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b] by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. —Romans 1:1-4

You are

by God.

We love Him because He loved us first. —I John 4:19 (NLV)
But God showed His love to us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. —Romans 5:8 (NLV)
You have not chosen Me; I have chosen you. —John 15:16a (NLV)

God also calls us to understand our place and to live out our purpose.

God’s purpose for our life is clear.

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus. —Romans 1:1 (NIV)

We are to serve Him.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. —John 13:34-35 (NIV)

and

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. —Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

Truth Three

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. —Romans 1:11-12

God has placed you in his

All Christ followers are part of God’s family.

From now on you are not strangers and people who are not citizens. You are citizens together with those who belong to God. You belong in God’s family. —Ephesians 2:19 (NLV)
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. —Romans 8:16 (NLT)

Being a part of God’s family includes supporting, encouraging, and helping one another grow spiritually. “Leading others to become more like Jesus.”

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, —Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)

“It is a great honor to be called a child of God and to be a part of His family. No matter where you go or who you are, you will always be part of God’s family.”

  • Shown His Grace and Peace

  • Placed you in His Family
