Philippians 4:18–19 NLT: At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied … 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 5:22–23 NLT: But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

Philippians 4:6–7 NLT: Don’t worry about anything…

I. Cheap Fix:

your heart

  1. By masking problems

  2. By managing problems

Philippians 4:6–7 NLT: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Better Investment:

your heart

  1. In posture

Psalm 51:10 NLT: Create in me a [right] heart, O God.

2. In prayer

Psalm 19:14 NLT: May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you…

Philippians 4:8 NLT: And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts…

II. Cheap Fix: Let your mind

  1. On what you want

  2. On what you lack

Philippians 4:8–9 NLT: …Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Better Investment: Fix your mind

2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT: We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

  1. On what you need

  2. On what you have

Romans 8:5–6 NLT: Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

Philippians 4:11 NLT: …be content with whatever…

III. Cheap Fix: Tell yourself to get over it

  1. Until the season changes

  2. Until the provision changes

Philippians 4:11–13 NLT: …I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Better Investment: Ask Jesus to get through it

  1. For one more day

Matthew 6:11 NLT: Give us today the food we need

  1. With whatever you have today

2 Corinthians 12:8–9a NLT: Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. 9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

Philippians 4:18–19 NLT: At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied … 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NLT: 16 Always be joyful… 18 for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
