Ezekiel
Results of Backsliding

Ezekiel was a priest called to be a .
The book of Ezekiel may also be divided into three sections, following the prophet’s call in 1–3: (1) God’s judgment on Jerusalem because they backslid, 4–24; (2) God’s judgment on the surrounding nations, 25–32; and (3) God’s restoration of the Jews in the kingdom, 33–48.
Though the prophet was in distant Babylon, he was able to see events in Jerusalem through the power of the of God.
God commanded him to do a number of symbolic acts in order to get the attention of the people: play at war (4:1–3); lie on his side a certain number of days (4:4–17); shave his hair and beard (5:1–4); act like someone fleeing from war (12:1–16); sit and sigh (21:1–7); and, the most difficult of all was his wife dying (24:15–27). It was not easy to be a prophet.
God’s people had turned back to so they reaped what they had sown.

Ezekiel 18:26–29 (NLT): When righteous people turn from their righteous behavior and start doing sinful things, they will die for it. Yes, they will die because of their sinful deeds. 27 And if wicked people turn from their wickedness, obey the law, and do what is just and right, they will save their lives. 28 They will live because they thought it over and decided to turn from their sins. Such people will not die. 29 And yet the people of Israel keep saying, ‘The Lord isn’t doing what’s right!’ O people of Israel, it is you who are not doing what’s right, not I.
